Doshu Moriteru Ueshiba - Third Aikido Doshu

Doshu Moriteru Ueshiba

Moriteru Ueshiba was born on April 2, 1951 in Tokyo as the son of Kisshomaru Ueshiba and grandson of the Founder of Aikido - O-Sensei Morihei Ueshiba. He is the third and current Doshu (Master of the Way) of Aikido.

Education and Beginnings

Moriteru Ueshiba graduated with a degree in economics from Meiji Gakuin University in 1976. From the youngest years, he was prepared for the role of future leader of Aikido, training directly under the guidance of his father and other outstanding instructors of Hombu Dojo.

Assuming the Role of Doshu

In 1996, he became Dojocho (head of the dojo) of Aikikai Hombu Dojo in Tokyo. After his father's death on January 4, 1999, he assumed the title of Doshu, becoming the third Master of the Way of Aikido in history.

International Activity

As Doshu, Moriteru Ueshiba:

  • Regularly travels around the world, conducting seminars and demonstrations
  • Oversees the development of Aikikai and national federations on all continents
  • Maintains the highest technical and ethical standards in Aikido
  • Continues the mission of his father and grandfather in spreading Aikido

Family and Future

The son of Doshu - Mitsuteru Ueshiba (born 1981) - is being prepared as the future fourth Doshu, ensuring the continuity of the Ueshiba family line in leading world Aikido.
